The African jacana is proof that the earth’s biodiversity will keep coming up with new ways to surprise us. Images of this unique bird have gone viral for it having what appears to be multiple sets of legs growing out of its body. In reality these images are showing dedicated fathers carrying their chicks to safety under their wings. These birds have evolved giant feet to help them adapt to their unique swamp lifestyle, and the babies feet dangle down as their father’s carry them.

I am helping to raise awareness by creating videos explaining more about the ecology of this amazing bird. Helping the public learn the story of the species behind the images they see online can help them care about unique animals and habitats.
