Red Siskins are iconic, strikingly beautiful little birds, known for their vivid red plumage. Once common in Venezuela just a few decades ago, they are now critically endangered due to unsustainable trapping for the caged bird trade and widespread habitat loss. Only a few small, fragmented populations remain. I work with Provita, a Venezuelan environmental NGO, where we are working hard to captive-breed confiscated individuals, with the hope of reintroducing them into the wild in the near future.
